Tom Huizenga | November 18, 2016 - Classical music observers say we're living in a golden age of string quartets. It's hard to disagree when you hear the vibrant young players in New York's Attacca Quartet. They revere the old school, having recently completed a performance cycle of all 68 string quartets by Joseph Haydn, the man who invented the genre.

The internationally-acclaimed Attacca Quartet collaborates with emerging composer Michael Ippolito on his debut album on the Grammy-winning Azica Records.

The world premiere recording of Michael Ippolito's chamber music,  Songlines is built around two large works: the dark and intense String Quartet No. 2 (2010) and the lyrical and compact String Quartet No. 3 "Songlines" (2012). These large pieces will be complemented with shorter works for strings: the bright and buoyant big sky, low horizon (2013), the propulsively energetic Trace (2009), the simple, folk-inspired this circle (2013) and the gently hypnotic Smoke Rings (2015).
