Program:

Attacca Quartet return to the Phillips for the World Premiere of a new commissioned work by composer Gabriel Kahane. Kahane explores themes of technology and surveillance capitalism in a new work for string quartet titled, Walter Benjamin’s Non-Fungible Token. Benjamin’s cultural criticism—which examined the role of technological reproduction in questions of authenticity and reception in art in the 1930s—takes on a special prescience in the twenty-first century, when the encroachment of digital technologies has further altered our relationship to artworks, ushering in a new age of the “cryptographic sublime”.
